August 2010, Trip to Mystic, CT

As a wonderfully generous and creative wedding gift, family friends sent us a gift certificate to a bed and breakfast and train tickets to Mystic, CT. A great idea to have a trip for Nick and I to take that we'll remember for years and years. After waiting to find a great weekend to go, we finally went in August. The weather was perfect and it was a great weekend out of the city. Mystic is a great little Sea port town, with great food, wonderful people, lovely views of the water.

The Mystic Aquarium was incredibly entertaining. Here is the Beluga whale exhibit. We were quite impressed overall with the aquarium.
On our walk back from the aquarium, we stopped by Mystic Seaport.
View from peering inside the penguin exhibit.

On Friday, we went to dinner at the Flood Tide Restauarant. It was associated with the Inn we stayed in, The Inn at Mystic. They had great food- a wonderful lobster crepe for appetizer, and a delicious stew of locally caught fish and shell fish. And the views were great as well.
You can't go to Mystic, CT and NOT get a slice from Mystic Pizza. It was quite tasty, and the local Mystic brew was really good. Reminded me a bit of Magic Hat #9 and a bit of a raspberry aftertaste.
Waterfall on the grounds at the Inn at Mystic. So pretty!

When the drawbridge goes up.... This weekend there was an annual arts fair in the downtown area (here). It was a great event so we could peruse through local arts and crafts. The weather made it perfect for being outside.
